Procida
Intimate
Less well known than Ischia and Capri, little Procida is a gem about an hour’s ship from Naples. In the port, to welcome us there are all the pastel colors that characterize the houses of the island in addition to the small fishing boats, which seem moored there specifically to be photographed from any perspective.
This was my first time in Procida but I had longed to visit it. I imagined it as the ideal place to relax and indeed it is; Procida tourism is very different from the nightlife that you meet in Ischia and the glamour-chic of Capri. It is an island suitable for long walks, romantic dinners based on good fresh fish by the sea and beaches a bit wild often to reach after descending 200 and more steps.
We rented a moped for the three days we stayed on the island, which is so small that with the scooter or car you visit in a day. Yet every corner, every glimpse of Procida is a continuous discovery, a landscape to be immortalized, a riot of colors that illuminated by the sun become even more flamboyant.
One of the most characteristic places is certainly Corricella whose name in Latin means “beautiful district” (It is no coincidence that Procida is divided into 9 districts) and is a typical fishing village that can only be accessed through a staircase.
This area is beautiful both day and evening; during the day for the pastel colors of the houses and in the evening for the quays illuminated by the light of candles on the tables of the restaurants.
We stayed for lunch in a famous place such as the Postman’s Inn.
In this inn, where you can taste excellent seafood dishes and here the unforgettable Massimo Troisi, he shot his most famous masterpiece: the Postman
Another nice restaurant in the area, where we stayed for dinner is La Gorgonia. Fresh fish, Tables right on the quayside, candles and intimate and reserved environment.
Another destination that struck us a lot, on the opposite side of the island, was the islet of Vivara, a protected oasis that can be reached by crossing a long suspension bridge over the sea that is truly crystal clear. Right in Vivara you can enjoy spectacular sunsets even if the area is always a little more breezy apparently.
The historic center of Procida, the wonderful walled Land, is another characteristic place from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view and breathe the authenticity of this land where people always have a spontaneous and courteous smile, everyone is ready to help you so that you can visit the island at its best, each to a secret or special place that “you absolutely must visit”. Even if it is 10:30 pm no restaurateur leaves you at the door, in fact he advises you what to eat and the next day where to go to the beach or have an aperitif, as happened to us with the very kind owners of the Sent Co restaurant.
Experiencing this three-day Full Immersion in Procida was a wonderful experience and really makes you reflect on how places so small and close to us, in our wonderful Peninsula, can remain so indelible. There are mornings when I wake up with the desire to look out from the terrace of our splendid B&B The Commander and see that sea shine.
Have a good Moka coffee and watch the small boats slowly move away from the harbor, eat one of the typical brioche and watch the colorful houses, so full of life, history and traditions.
Walk among colorful flowers and walk on the beaches so intimate and collected.
Here is the adjective for Procida:Intima.
