Raise your hand if you love Christmas markets!!! We have good news for all Christmas market enthusiasts living in southern Italy… they’ve finally arrived here too and are expanding like wildfire! Of course we are not yet at the level of the South Tyrol tradition but the markets in the south will amaze you anyway…
After the markets of Pontecagnano and those of Limatola, this year we chose the Christmas markets of Torrecuso, Benevento, at Tenuta la Fortezza.
Torrecuso is a small village in Benevent, immersed in the now autumnal colors of vineyards and fields and Estate La Fortezza is an extraordinary location for events of all kinds, from weddings to meetings.
It is not the first edition of these Christmas markets, but only this year we manage to be present. It’s about 4:00 p.m., we park the car on the street, the internal parking lot seems to be already full.
The estate is completely illuminated by colorful lights, the snow machines make the atmosphere even more magical, while in the air the most classic Christmas songs and children’s laughter resound.
A river of people strolls through the wooden houses where artisans show and sell their creations: creams, soaps, wine, Christmas baubles and rag dolls.
The air, not yet too cold, smells of mulled wine, chestnuts and pretzels, good to eat and even more beautiful to photograph.
Between the luminaries and the stalls, the beauty of all the rooms of the Estate La Fortezza, a refined and elegant environment that never goes into the background, despite the confusion.
Suddenly Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas…” is interrupted by more popular music of drums and “trikes“: young and old, with period clothes dance ancient dances typical of the benevent.
We stay immersed in tradition watching some ladies knead the egg pasta by hand for cavatelli and tagliatelle.
In the garden where the property’s small chapel is located, many Christmas lights including children play and adults take pictures. The boys of the association Benevento Longobarda, are dressed as warriors and show the curious, the metal jersey, swords and musical instruments while someone tries their hand at archery.
Not only Christmas Markets, but also a real Santa village dedicated entirely to the little ones.
Also for this year we inaugurated December and Advent in the best way, fully immersing ourselves in the festive and warm atmosphere of Christmas in the south… If on this holiday weekend, that of the bridge of the Immaculate Conception, you are in the area take advantage of it to participate in these Christmas markets. This will be the last weekend for this edition so we advise you not to miss it!
The markets will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and you’ll find all the useful info here:
