Are you wondering if it is possible to discover the island in just two days? Of course it won’t be exactly relaxation but yes, it’s possible to do a few things on a weekend in Tenerife.
Obviously I recommend you to “replicate” this itinerary in the low season, in summer it will be much more difficult to respect the roadmap. Our itinerary starts from Adeje and for travel we rented a car with Cicar.
How to prepare for a weekend in Tenerife
Before leaving, I recommend you book your visit to Teide; whether it’s the simple ticket for the gondola lift or one of the excursions, connect to the official website and book.
The official site of the Teide volcano is well made, easy to navigate, fast and intuitive, it won’t be difficult to book. Obviously choose one of the first hours of the morning to have time to continue the itinerary.
Tenerife weekend Day 1
Wake up early in the morning and immediately conquer the highest peak of Tenerife, Spain and the Atlantic Ocean, El Teide.
The journey from Adeje to the Parque Nacional del Teide is approximately 50 minutes. You will be conquered by the clouds that you will pass through, the incredible Canyon and the lush vegetation that suddenly rises among black lava boulders.
About two hours to Teide and then we continue the journey going north to Santa Cruz de Tenerife (about 25 minutes by car).
Tenerife’s most important city, it mixes ultra modern buildings with typical architecture. Do not miss the white pearl of Santa Cruz, or the Auditorium which bears the signature of Santiago Calatrava.
Unmissable then a photo in the Plaza de España and a walk through the lively streets of the city, where unexpectedly rows of colorful houses arise.
You could eat something in Santa Cruz but if you keep following us we have better things.
Before saying goodbye to the city, follow the signs for Playa las Teresitatasabout 10 minutes from the city. An aperitif on the golden beach of Tenerife, whose sand was brought directly from the Sahara.
Are you hungry now? Perfect! Let’s move to the south. You can choose the areas of La Orotava (30 minutes by car) and Icod de los Vinos where you can find many Guachinches, the typical Canarian restaurants: typical food, generous portions, house wine, grilled meat and very small prices.
Guachinches in Tenerife
If you have chosen the area of Icod de los Vinos, you can also visit el Drago, the millennial tree of the island otherwise in about 40 minutes and with only 3 euros visit the botanical garden of Puerto de la Cruz.
Our first itinerary ends in Puerto de la Cruz. Very black sand and ocean. Surfboards in the water and hang gliders in the air.
An eternally summer walk between restaurants and department stores. Here you could end your evening with a dinner, a sandwich or a drink.
Weekend in Tenerife day 2
Here we are on the second day of weekend in Tenerife. I know you wanted to visit some water park but I have a better and more excited proposal.
Preparatevi per una escursione in barca, catamarano o gommone ala ricerca di balene pilota e delfini.
It starts from Puerto Colon, the price is always reasonable and I can guarantee that it will be a unique experience of its kind. These excursions last from two to three hours so if you book for 9 or 10 in the morning you will have a lot of time.
What do we do after this excursion? We immediately take the car and go to admire another strong point of Tenerife: Los Gigantes.
The beautiful cliff can not miss in your souvenir photos. You can then reach Playa los Guíos, practically at the foot of Los Gigantes and maybe eat something in the area.
After lunch we move again and arrive inGarachico(about an hour from Los Gigantes), a small village overlooking the sea which in 1700 was completely destroyed by the eruption of the volcano and still carries with it the visible signs of that disaster .
Garachico is a village suspended between lava and sea: roads covered with black lava and a personal view of the ocean.
End the evening in the most touristic and lively of Tenerife, Playa Las Americas which will create many problems for you:
- Finding parking
- Deciding where to eat (a flood of restaurants where you can eat very well and all types of cuisine)
