Ready to think about holidays, desire for the sea, desire for summer, desire for islands, desire for Spain but what to choose? Canary or Balearic Islands?
Keep in mind that upon arrival you will be faced with two very different types of islands: the Canaries still under construction and with really particular (and kitch) buildings, the Balearics that combine modern elements with neo Hippie atmospheres and glimpses of traditional Spain.
Let’s see the fundamental differences:
Canary or Balearic Islands: the costs
The Canaries are an economic destination probably for the facilitated taxation. A dinner at the restaurant ranges from 30 to 70 euros per couple, even Mexican food has an even lower cost.
Perhaps less economical is the ordinary shopping in a supermarket in the city, as well as an aperitif in a shopping center or a day of shopping.
In the Balearics, the costs are different and depending on the island, Ibiza is perhaps one of the most expensive. A dinner in Ibiza starts from 40 euros per couple, the cost of a paella is on average 21 euros, compared to 18 for a paella in Tenerife.
Greater choice of prices for souvenirs and other goods that can be purchased in stores such as La Sirena. Even the shopping has perhaps more affordable prices, if you are obviously further away from the tourist areas.
Canary or Balearic Islands: the beaches
The difference is certainly one in particular, the sea. Obviously the Canary Islands are in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean so the sea is certainly colder and intense blue, unlike the Balearic Islands characterized instead by beautiful coves of crystal clear waters.
The Balearics are perfect for snorkeling while the Canaries give you the opportunity to meet whales and dolphins.
Canary or Balearic Islands: Rent a car
in the Canary Islands it is much simpler and cheaper than in the Balearics, you don’t need a credit card and the bureaucracy is super fast.

For the Balearics it is not excessively expensive but perhaps slightly more complicated. Not all car rental companies accept Debit Cards and it is often necessary to add insurance that raises the price a little.

Movida, Nightlife and other activities
Here we must make a clarification, the islands offer two completely different types of tourism.
Choose the Canaries if you want to try unique experiences such as extreme sports, surfing or beautiful trekking experiences or in contact with animals and nature.
We recommend instead the Balearic Islands for nightlife at any time of day or night, but also for cultural and spiritual walks.
