Saturday morning. One of the mornings we love, the sun-filled ones, the ones that smell of icing sugar on fluffy freshly baked croissants. The yellow of lemons shines as well as the blue of the sea. From the gardens of the Tamara Residences, you can see a lighthouse in the distance. Lello explains that to get closer we have to reach one of the most beautiful areas of Cilento, Punta Licosa.
Punta Licosa, beautiful and mysterious. According to legend, the mermaid Leucosia, committed to committed her life because of unrequited love; she threw herself off a cliff and turned into a rock. The islet where the lighthouse stands, on the other hand, would be precisely the one in which Ulysses was tied to the tree, to resist the sirens singing.
We are quite lucky, in this period you can access this stretch of coast even by car. In summer you have to cross a wonderful and verdant pine forest, leaving the car in the delightful port of San Marco. Everything is perfect here. Each element contributes to building the uniqueness and beauty of this place: the succession of lovely coves, the sometimes rocky seabed that can be seen under this transparent water that shines in the sun and the dancing trees, these trees almost kneeling towards the sea.
The light breeze brings with it the scent of salt and resin. The landscape is a palette of bright colors: the sea water and the blue of the sea, the white of the sand and lighthouse in the distance, the yellow of large mimosas and a palette of green shades of the Mediterranean bush.
We move to Santa Maria di Castellabate for lunch. It’s almost 3pm, we were more than expected in Punta Licosa to enjoy the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun. Fortunately, the restaurants are teeming with tourists still sitting at the table to enjoy lunch at the seaside. We choose a decent little restaurant under ancient arcades, in the famous pier of the Cats.
The restaurant l’Arcata
is delicious: old fishing nets are hung on the walls outside, on the majolica walls decorated with bright colors, an appetizing scent of fresh fish expertly cooked.
The promenade on the promenade is a must before sunset. Scooters and motorcycles parked outside the ice cream parlours, the palm trees lining the promenade, the laughter of children still playing on the beach and a blue expanse of fishing boats. We almost can’t figure this one that now looks like a quiet seaside resort, as an overcrowded place of people in July and August. Many restaurants are closed as the window signs of many apartments. There are no umbrellas or sunbeds, there are no sweet stalls or jewelry, there is no Latin music, no smell of crepes. There are families, there are children, there are boys and girls who enjoy a relaxing Saturday taking advantage of these 26th. Here at this time it’s all quiet, relaxed, serene, just like this gorgeous red sunset over this water-green sea.
