I wanted a weekend out of the door, I wanted one of those beautiful Nature Sunday trips, food and hours punctuated by the sound of glass glasses touching each other in toasts. “Little known places in Campania” I had searched on Google and among the many wonders of my land I had found these waterfalls, the hair of Venus.
The Chilean coast is used to give wonders, often unknown to most but the hinterland is all to discover, a treasure chest hidden that often waits only for the beautiful days to show themselves to travelers.
Have you ever heard of Casaletto Spartano? Well it is this tiny village that preserves this great and umpteenth treasure of our rich Italy.
The falls of Venus’ hair are born from the waters of the Bussentino River and are located within a protected natural oasis, a few km away from Morigerati.
We arrive on a day of persistent and incessant rain, we do not have an umbrella and we smoke yet another cigarette in the car waiting for it to rain. The road was all curved, between the green of the mountains that are awakening with the arrival of spring and glimpses of the sea in the distance.
We were hoping it would end up raining so we took refuge in the village, the restaurant bar The Oasis of Taste is a meeting place for citizens of all ages.
Caciocavallo in the “tiana”, cutting sausages and homemade cavatelli have already consoled our stomachs.
We park in a space in front of the public fountains and decide to defy the rain that seems to have decided to ruin us on Sunday. We don’t have an umbrella, let alone a k-way but we have to go.
Today you do not pay the ticket yet… After all, there are few people, few tourists and even the picnic planes are closed. The rain continues to fall louder and louder but suddenly we almost no longer hear the sound, we only hear the incessant song of the waterfalls a few meters from us.
Do you know why they’re called Venus Hair?
It seems that Venus had taken refuge in the area, looking for relaxation. On the banks of the river he combed his long blond hair and danced. A man, a local hunter, saw her and obsessed with her figure and her golden hair and watched her for days hidden in the trees. One day she decided that her hair was to be hers, and while the Goddess was asleep, she cut off her hair.
Waking up with a start, Venus retaliated and as the hunter ran with the “loot” only water was found in his hands. Venus turned man into a plant that would remain forever near that waterfall.
The water of the waterfalls flows incessantly, it is very cold and immersed in the most absolute green. It will be easy for you to take beautiful photos and you will find that the effect of the water that descends lightly between the rocks really gives the impression of soft hair descending on a woman’s shoulders.
Venus’ hair is a spectacle of nature in an oasis of peace where there is only the noise of the river and the scent of damp grass.
At the official opening of the park, you will pay a ticket of only 3 euros but you can also visit a mill and see it in operation
In addition, the good weather and long days will allow you to take one of the hiking trails or maybe stop for a picnic inside this paradise on earth.
Do you know beautiful places like these in Campania to suggest for the coming weekends? We would like to discover secret places that you think would be nice to introduce to others and on this the Cilento, always has so much to say and show.
For example, have you ever been there in Castellabate? here’s another Chilean pearl!
