If you are looking for a different party than usual and especially if you want to know the hippie soul of Ibiza, you have to go to Benirras.
Every Sunday you can watch the drum party: a very hippie party that takes place on the beach, when the sun begins to fall.
The tradition of the drum festival is historic in Ibiza, a ritual to celebrate the sunset introduced by the first hippies who landed on the island.
About fifteen percussionists incite the crowd to dance on tribal rhythms and melodies that gradually become more pressing.
Percussionists occasionally call some girls in the middle of the circle to dance free on the sound of drums and involve the rest of the people.
Among the girls, however, serene competitions are born with Twerky. The spectators become the judges but all win and thank the audience.
Some things to know about Benirras
Benirras is located in one of the northernmost areas of the island, follow the directions to Portinax.
Benirras beach has limited car access on Sundays, so you’ll be required to get to the free (near) parking lot in Sa Plana.
From there you will take a bus that departs every 15 minutes to Benirras. The ticket you make on board and it costs 1.90 euros.
Even in Benirras, the beach is equipped but most people prefer not to use it.
The party takes place on the left side of the beach, where there are some of the old “houses” of fishermen.
The festival will end with the final setting of the sun and the beginning of the evening, sometimes with the fireworks that seal the moment.
