Eight March
March 8th and tomorrow?
They send audio notes on whatsapp as early as seven in the morning. They enter Zara during the sales period to slingshot themselves on the new collection, but when they buy they always make “a bargain”. They buy high heels for the first time in Ibiza and will only wear ultra-flat sandals from the second evening. They do the “healthy” shopping… but only if they decide to go on a diet. They are serial accumulators of junk for the house, they all complain about Ricky Martin’s homosexuality and they all know at least one laura Pausini song. Then someone goes into space, someone wins the Olympics with the floret, some were even going to be president of the United States, some won a Nobel Prize in medicine. Women.
And yet if, unfortunately, one of them overtakes you with the car you call her, if she’s there the first night, the same thing and if she doesn’t. Ditto. If one leaves her boyfriend, it’s right to spill acid and disfigure her forever. If she’s expecting a child it’s right to fire her, but it’s even fairer to do so if you try her because you’re the boss and she doesn’t do all kinds of “mansions.” Old talk? Overcome? So let’s try these: it’s right to infibulate the little girls because “so’traditions”,stone women because “so’traditions”,sell them in marriage because “so’traditions” … and traditions, you know, must be respected from the East to the West. And these women of today then, so casual, who drive, smoke, study, earn; the eastern ones who want to do too much the Westerners and the Westerners who want to put the veil on their heads… in short, you are right men, there is just no more religion! Ah! These Women!
But you know what? I’m just sorry that those like you, those who think like you, we still generate them us and above all I have not yet understood… but how is it that you always take from Dad?
Too often we have heard that “March 8 is every day” and that “women are always celebrated”, but tomorrow we will hear of new femicides, of women forced to live a nightmare every time they cross the threshold of home, of women who are fired, harassed or pointed out for choices that companies do not like.
The truth is that clichés do not collapse and the convictions of the world in which we live are and will always be the same. Even the most “modern” actually when it comes to certain topics, so modern then they are not and in fact the 8th of March is just a day that smells of mimosas and chocolates. So women as usual just have to do what we are now used to do: fight, have the courage to change things, make our way to elbows and learn to be even more sympathetic to each other, to improve a world that can not do without us but at the same time. still doesn’t want it.
