In addition to the Boccon Divino restaurant, another restaurant we particularly enjoyed was the Restaurant In the Shadow of the Baroque,in the heart of the old town, next to the majestic square of St. Irene.
It’s impossible not to notice this little restaurant: the lantern-lit tables are located in the small courtyard on which we overlook the beautiful balconies of a 600s palace.
The restaurant In the shadow of the Baroque is part of Librerrima,an independent bookstore founded in 1993 inside the beautiful 17th-century palace and that’s why you’ll find it open not only for dinner but also for lunch and breakfast.
The prices displayed outside the restaurant are inviting and there is the opportunity to choose tasting menus that are a real wine-food trip in Salento. We sit down and decide that we want to taste something typical once again; first we share an appetizer with typical Salento products: burrata, Martina-Franca neck, eggplant and onions in sweet and sour, green beans with cacioricotta…
The first one this time is the same for both of us. We can’t leave this land without tasting ciceri and tria,a pasta with chickpeas and fried pasta: a great dish, lots of chickpeas and a very plentiful portion. This typical dish along with the appetizer of excellence Salentine has immediately sated us and we decide to stop here with dinner. The price, including drinks was about 35 euros.
The staff were always kind and attentive throughout the evening and also very quick in delivering the dishes, considering that the kitchens are inside the palace and we dined outside. In addition, it is still pleasant to dine in such an easy-chic and relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by the beauty of Lecce’s old town.
We recommend the restaurant In the shadow of the Baroque not only to couples but also to families, it will be an unforgettable evening that will make you love this beautiful city even more.
