Are you always looking for the right wave? Do you love the Sport of the Wind? Why go all the way to California then to surf great if Europe also has its own windy beaches ready to fly your board? We’re not surfing experts, but you don’t know how much we’d like… surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing fascinate us literally and during our travels, we were amazed by how many places in Europe or at least very close to Italy, give the opportunity to have fun hovering between the waves and the wind.
Here is the list of all the places not far from our nation where you can surf:
SURFING IN GREECE
During our travels on the islands of Greece,we have discovered islands whose slopes seem made to abandon themselves to the wind. Beaches, sometimes hidden other times extra-known that have turned out to be real havens for professional and non-professional surfers.
In Mykonos, for example, the beach most loved by surfers is Kalafatis: a golden beach of about one kilometer, bathed as always by crystal clear waters and the wind coming down from the mountains and reaching the maximum speed around noon.
On the small island of Antiparosthe north side seems reserved exclusively for table lovers: just rent a scooter and start exploring the northern side and its wild and hidden beaches. The most famous is definitely Psaraliki Beach and its surf club, Lo Spot One,much appreciated by tourists.
We cannot fail to mention, of course, the island of Crete:the largest of the Greek islands has a geographical shape and weather conditions perfect for water sports. In addition, there are plenty of clubs equipped for both professionals and those who want to try their hand at one of these activities for the first time.
Once again the best slope is the one in the North-Northeast where are located some of the beaches most loved by surfers and not only, for example: Ammoudara, the bay of Elounda, the coast of Papadiokampos and Kouremenos.
Finally the largest of the Cyclades,Naxos of which one of the most beloved beaches for surfing is definitely one of the most loved on the island: Miki Vigla. A tongue of white sand and transparent water, perfect also for snorkeling, we could call it the favorite of the Greeks themselves.
SURFING IN SPAIN
That Fuerteventura is the realm of surfing, everyone knows this, but it’s not the only one you can have fun in!
Surely among the islands that we were lucky enough to know and love there is what is known as “the island of the wind”,the beautiful Menorca. To the north the wind of Tramontana is at home and on the whole island you find nautical clubs.
Listing all the beautiful beaches where surfing is impossible but possimao mention Punta Prima, Platja de la Cavalleria or Cala Tortuga. Menorca is the island of surfing, for everyone even for those who want to learn… In fact Fornells with its gentle waves is ideal for beginners.
If you want to experience an unusual Ibiza, then dedicate yourself to one of the sports you can play on the island, including surfing and the like. Move north, among the most popular destinations you’ll find Punta Xarraca, further south instead you’ll find Cala Nova, not far from es Canar. Very fun is the sports club, SURF LOUNGE,where you can learn to surf graze at FLOWRIDER,a wave machine.
Finally we close with a classic: Formentera. Here one of the most popular beaches for surfing is playa des Migjorn, not too far from Cala de Morts and Es Calò. Wild and soft and clear sand, like all beaches in Formentera, this will be your favorite when the wind blowing from the north will give you unforgettable waves.
