The word Souvenirs comes from French and means remembrance. There is no trip without a small souvenir to keep for yourself or to take to those we love; a small or large object that says:“yes, I was there and I thought of you…” . But raise your hand who has received at least: 100 cups, 200 magnets and 50 keychains? it’s time to say enough! We give and give ourselves different souvenirs, something that really reminds that place or makes its atmosphere feel.
Here is the list of souvenirs to do (and not to do, because you can’t get any more…).
Original Suovenirs:
Food
Each place has a typical dish, a unique ingredient or a special liqueur. Lately we have noticed that people have enjoyed this type of gifts: handmade pasta or typical sauces from Italy, Mamajuana from the Dominican Republic, the high-athenian speck from Merano, the Salt from Ibiza, the cereals from Ny. Of course, always take into account your baggage and what you can check in if you are on a plane. Anyway you will see that the people who receive these souvenirs will be intrigued and enthusiastic… especially the most delicious.
LICENSE PLATES OR SQUARES
Another delicious souvenir are the old car number plates that are often found on stalls or small shops (especially on the American continent) or squares of various types such as wooden canvases or squares that replace the old and dear postcards.
HANDMADEJOUXS
In Ibiza we visited the famous Hippie markets and had fun buying handmade souvenirs, especially jewelry that drove our friends crazy because they were not only beautiful objects but also unique and unobtainable pieces.
ART AND PHOTO BOOKS
If you are in an art city you can think of buying as souveir books that tell of a museum or works of an artist etc. For admirers it will be a very welcome gift. Otherwise you can buy a photo book that will invoil, intrigue or make the person who receives it dream.
TYPICAL COOKBOOKS
For our moms were fantastic gifts the typical cookbooks, especially those from Puglia… Obviously. You could try to make the same gift to your moms (and why not even aunts, grandparents, sisters or all lovers of cooking) and you will see that it will be a very appreciated thought.
Here is the list of all the souvenirs not to be given (more) unless they are avid collectors:
- cups and cups
- Keychain
- caps, T-shirts and bags with “Barcelona”, “Paris” on it, etc. difficult for anyone to actually wear them.
- Statuettes
- combo towel, gripper and oven mitt
- lighters and ashtrays
And what do you bring to loved ones from your travels? Do you have any other ideas to list? What are the souvenirs you can’t take anymore?
