Not many days I found an article that immediately caught my attention; in a nutshell it was said how hard it was for women working in smart working or rather that, while for men the working hours is well defined, for women who work “from home”, the timetable does not even exist.
Essentially, working women, who are often also wives and mothers, are forced to stop their work all the time in order to devote themselves, among other things, to the home, household chores, lunch, dinner and children.
Well, I’m a woman promoting smart workingall my life, I had to stop for a second and yes, maybe it’s actually harder for us women (… we’re at the usual in short!)
I was assailed by a terrible sense of guilt: smart working here, smartworking there and maybe reading me there’s some desperate mom that tonight, if all goes well, she’ll finish at 11pm.
Beware though, I think this is a problem that does not so much concern freelancers and networkers but, the employees of those Italian companies just “converted” to smartworking and therefore quite unable to organize the work remotely at best (the companies, not you ladies… of course)
Probably the smart working has literally swooped on you and on top of that….you have been left to yourself!
In short, be honest: did the leaders or the boss tell you right away what the internal organization would be?
I bet with every little difficulty, your phone rings and away to waste time for hours on the phone.
Tell me the truth, how many of you have a meeting with Zoom several times a week, even when there is absolutely no need?
How many have started using workflow tools like Trello or Slack? I see a few hands up.
So you know what I’m telling you? It’s not the husband’s fault that doesn’t help you enough, and neither are your children! Sir, your companies are unprepared for fault!
Deadlines impossible to meet just to put pressure on and make sure you’re really working.
Poor sharing and communication (Free version… because the Pro is really too much) that make you lose a sea of extra time!
Working hours equal and identical to what you do in the office, because they pay you and you have to work and earn every single penny! This is a classic: work of quantity and not real productivity.
And then I’m sorry… all those nice paperwork kept in the office, do we want to talk about it? Better to print everything, better 2000 forms to fill out in pen, right? Why digitize everything and make it accessible to employees at any time? No, you can’t do… it costs too much!
Sir, these are the reasons why you’re hating work from home and going to sleep at crazy times! Your marriage is not in crisis because your husband does not clean the bathrooms (and maybe he never did!).
The truth is that disorganization, poor digitization and let’s face it, the wrong mindset, further and further distance us from the prospect of self-managed work that allows us to have even more free time… especially for the kind sex.
Oh, then if you’re reading don’t find two things:
Your company you work for is great
