Hello Hotelier, welcome or welcome back! Have you heard of Domestic Tourism before? If you’ve heard of it but don’t know what it is, you’d better read this article well to prepare yourself for the best.
Domestic tourism: what is it?
Domestic tourism is that tourism that preys on a journey within one’s own nation but also within its own region.
It may be a journey of business, of pleasure, of family, by any means of travel but it will always be within the borders of nations.
In the summer of 2020 you have certainly touched this new frontier of tourism with your hands and you better get used to it because it will take some time to return to that international, classic tourism that you are used to.
But why should it be different?
If you think each guest is the same as another… you’re really wrong!
To travel and stay in your structure will be your compatriots who maybe think you know but maybe not.
You are used to dealing with foreigners who have very different pretensions, tastes and needs.
It is no coincidence that it has been very difficult for many hoteliers this summer to host their countrymen, and it is no coincidence that many of them have even complained of a certain lack of ‘grace’ on the part of the facilities.
I’m sure that wasn’t the case but maybe you should get to know these guests who share your language and nationality better.
So what to do?
To better prepare for this domestic tourist we advise you to:
- Study the country’s financial situation well (not just those you think is happening or what you hear).

- Check out all the marketing and communication strategies used in the past to understand which ones were the best performing at the local level.
- Based on the national financial situation and trends, prepare a strategy of personalized offers and packages.
What do you think about domestic tourism? Do you consider it something you are used to or will it be a real challenge for you?
