“Where to eat in Barcelona?” is one of the messages we receive most often in Instagram DMs ( by the way, do you follow us on Instagram? You can find us here) and often what interests us most is that not only do they eat well but that they are also truly unique “little places”.
We have 3 really unmissable places that we generally recommend to everyone and no, these are not the usual super-mega restaurant but really special places.
We had already talked about them on instagram in the post you see below, but now we’re adding 2 more exclusively for the blog and that you’ll find at the end of the article!
Let’s see what are the 3 unmissable places to eat in Barcelona!
Sant Jordi Bakery
We are in the beating heart of Barcelona, the fabulous Barrio Gotico and here is located the Sant Jordi Bakery, one of the oldest bakeries in the city.
Founded on January 26, 1798, this bakery is over 200 years old but is anything but touristy! In fact, you will see how many locals go there every day to buy bread and typical and international sweets.
We include it in the places to eat in Barcelona for a hearty, tasty and reasonably priced bocadillo and to taste the typical Barcelona sweets such as Coca de San Juan!
Pastry shop Escribà
A real institution of Barcelona and of the whole Catalunya, Escribà confectionery was founded in 1906 by Antoni Escribà who was defined as “the wizard of chocolate” or even the “Mozart of chocolate” because of the splendid cocoa sculptures which made him really famous and admired all over the world.
As you stroll down La Rambla, stop by the bakery for a sweet treat to enjoy right away. You will recognize the bakery for a beautiful mosaic that characterizes the entrance and for the windows that still show the cakes that almost look like miniature sculptures.
4 Gats
We return to the Gothic Quarter and we enter again in a historical place; it is the 4 Gats, a bar-restaurant that in the past was a meeting place for important artists of Spanish modernism.
Just think that it was here that Picasso was commissioned to do his first artistic work… the creation of menus!
Inspired by Paris’s Le Chat Noir, this restaurant is so named because when Miquel Utrillo and Pere Romeu were about to open the restaurant, acquaintances did nothing but comment, “You’ll be 4 cats!”
We recommend checking out the meat selection and don’t miss El cigaló Picasso.

Cafè Palau
Coffee but also perfect for lunch, also falls in our list of unmissable places to eat in Barcelona, the Café Palau of the Palace of Catalan Music.
The daily menu (Monday to Friday) costs only 13 euros and includes water and dessert, which you consume in one of the most beautiful places in Barcelona, in our opinion.
Yaya Amelia
For this restaurant we move near the Sagrada Familia, to eat in Barcelona what the Barcelonans actually eat. Nothing touristy then and especially no frozen paella of those offered on the Rambla. Here at the most you can taste the typical soup or maybe the cannelloni.
Super selection of wines and rustic environment that almost reminds an old tavern.
Last but not least, really fair prices, even more than expected.
