Planning a Valentine’s Day trip that is truly dreamy and romantic and not extremely expensive? Marrakech is the answer and you are on the right blog!
Marrakech is one of those places to which I would undoubtedly return; I need only look back at photos or reread my travelogues to be assailed by an overwhelming urge to buy a plane ticket.
A Valentine’s Day trip to Marrakech is a great idea for several reasons:
- Marrakech is a fairly inexpensive destination for lodging, eating, getting around by taxy, and doing various cultural and relaxation activities
- The dirham, the Moroccan currency is worth much less than the euro, so no problem with the exchange rate you can make locally
- The weather is mild in the Valentines period-special during the day, a pleasant sunny spring that sees the temperature drop a few degrees in the evening
- Often you can find quite convenient direct flight deals
It seems to me that the best conditions are in place to plan a truly memorable Valentine’s Day trip. But now to the planning of the perfect weekend.
So here is what to do for a truly romantic Valentine’s Day trip to Marrakech, our perfect recipe:
Staying in a Moroccan riad in the Medina
We wrote a specific article on why to sleep in a Riad in Marrakech, listing all the features of a real Riad.
The riad is the ultimate oasis to take refuge in at the end of a chaotic day in the Medina.
Here are the Riads in Marrakech that we have selected on Booking.com for your Valentine’s Day trip.
- 72 Riad Living
- Riad SPA “Les Portes de l’Orient” TOURS
- Riad Kasbah & Spa
- Hotel & Spa Riad El Walaa
- Riad Oriental Glory & Spa
- The Bohemian Jungle
Treat yourself to a Hammam on Valentine’s Day
Once you have experienced a real Moroccan hammam and all the treatments included in the experience, you will want to have one at least once a month ( I swear girls, believe me! I even wrote an article on reproducing a Moroccan hammam at home!)
Many Riads of those we have suggested also have a small indoor hammam and you can purchase the experience on site.
This generally includes relaxing total body massage, scrub, body mask and detox centrifuge.
The package of about two hours costs between 50 to 60 euros per person.
However, it is important to know that treatments take place separately for men and women.
Different environments, women for women and men for men, unlike perhaps in our classic spas where there are relaxation packages for couples.
Spending a night in the desert
One of the most romantic things you can do for your Valentine’s Day trip is to book an excursion to the Agafay Desert and spend an unforgettable night in a tent
The cost is around 200 euros and you also have included breakfast and access to various relaxation services.
Here are some beautiful structures you might consider:
- Agafay Luxury camp
- Emeraude Camp Agafay
- Selina Agafay Nomad Camp
- Canyon Lodge Désert Agafay
- Oxygen Lodge Agafay
The journey from Marrakech to the Agafay Desert takes approximately 40 minutes.
Alternatively, you can also spend the day in the desert and perhaps dine under the stars.
If so, we recommend the tours offered by Get Your Guide, which are generally impeccably and safely organized.
- ATV ride, camel ride and dinner
- Agafay Desert: dinner and camel or quad bike ride
- Magical sunset, dinner, bonfire and dance performance in Agafay
- Sunset and magical dinner in the desert of Agafay
Flying in a hot air balloon in Marrakech
If you have never done so, perhaps you could experience this very thing on Valentine’s Day in Morocco.
We have flown in a hot air balloon in Italy and we can assure you that it is an enchanting experience, simply unforgettable.
This experience costs around 200 euros per person, we are in line with Italian prices, but it is definitely the most original gift you can give ever.
Here are always on Get Your Guide the details
Sunset over Jemaa El fna
Why did we suggest such a “simple” thing for such a special weekend as Valentine’s Day ?
Because sunset in Marrakech is also magical for its colors, for that hush that suddenly falls over the chaotic square when the Muezzin begins, for the smell of mint tea that floods the cafes and terraces overlooking the Koutoubia.
And speaking of places to watch the sunset while sipping tea here is a list of the most beautiful places:
- Caffè de France
- Le Grand Balcon Cafe Glacier
- Cafe Restaurant Argana
- Zeitoun Café Jemaa El Fnaa
- Restaurant Art & Emotions
Dining on the rooftops of Marrakech’s Medina
What a magical atmosphere that Marrakech nights have.
There are truly Arabian Nights restaurants: traditional lanterns, Berber music, bows, carpets, and starry skies.
We have already written an article on 3 beautiful restaurants in Marrakech that you should try but add this one to the list:
Terrace Palais Dar Soukkar
Looking for something more instagrammable? Marrakech will not disappoint you believe me!
Below is a list of Instagram accounts of some nice, carefully curated restaurants:
Le Salama
Les Jardins de la Koutoubia
La Trattoria Marrakech
Kabana
Terrasse des épices
Riad Jardin Secret
ROYAL MANSOUR
But how much will it cost us to have dinner in such a place? I love it when I have to give you good news!!!
On average a full dinner with a good wine will not cost you much, we are about 30 euros per person to exaggerate, choosing fine restaurants.
Cheaper restaurants cost you ance much much less, especially local cuisine that is very good, for which you will pay 7/8 euros per person.
Worried about what to eat ? Don’t worry, Francis is often a bit picky too, but he ate and well too.
We will leave you with an article with a list of things to absolutely eat in Marrakech and you will see that you will agree with me.
We hope your Valentine’s Day trip to Marrakech, or at any rate your romantic trip to this thousand-and-one night destination, can be unforgettable!
